Imagine If…

Idea Making Made Easier

Course Highlights

This virtual creativity course will:

  • Identify when it’s beneficial to collaborate and when independent ideation might be more effective.
  • Outline techniques for clarifying problems and finding root causes.
  • Share a variety of tools and ideation techniques for generating, organizing, and refining ideas.
  • Provide tactics for overcoming common creativity blockers.

Course Overview

“Imagine If… Idea Making Made Easier” is a practical, two-hour course that simplifies the process of generating innovative ideas at work. Participants will explore proven strategies and tools for sparking creativity, solving problems, and fostering a culture of continuous ideation.

The course begins by examining the value of creativity in problem-solving and how it leads to breakthroughs such as Netflix’s streaming model, Amazon’s one-click ordering, and Airbnb’s home-try program. Participants will discuss ways to consistently find inspiration by observing customer requests, competitor offerings, and solutions from unrelated industries. To support deeper creative thinking, the course also covers common obstacles that limit creativity, such as rigid mindsets, premature judgment, and a fear of failure. Techniques for overcoming these barriers are explored, along with methods for reframing issues and breaking down problems to their core causes using tools like the “Five Whys.”

Participants will also practice multiple ideation tools, including traditional brainstorming and structured approaches such as SCAMPER (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to Another Use, Eliminate, and Reverse). Additional methods like reverse brainstorming and gallery writing are introduced to help participants overcome mental blocks and generate fresh perspectives. By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to recognize opportunities for creativity, employ practical ideation techniques, and apply strategies for refining their ideas into actionable solutions.
