An Interview with Eric Molin

Why do you do what you do?

I love teaching. After spending ten years in corporate America, I realized my greatest satisfaction came from training and teaching. I was born overseas in Taipei, Taiwan, into a family of traveling teachers, so being on the road and teaching feels natural to me.

What makes you uniquely qualified to teach your subjects?

I’ve been a public speaker for 20 years and have spent 11 of those teaching the skill. I’ve trained over 4,000 people, written a book, and delivered a TEDx talk on public speaking. Having lived in five countries and conducted business in 15 others, I bring a global perspective to cross-cultural projects. Additionally, my decade of experience in sales gives me firsthand knowledge of the challenges sales teams face and how to help them succeed.

How do you differentiate yourself from other training facilitators?

Every trainer is unique, so direct comparisons can be tricky. What sets me apart is my focus on authenticity. I encourage participants to speak in their own voice rather than mimic mine. Many participants come to me after struggling with courses where they felt pressured to copy the trainer’s style. My goal is to help people find their voice and express themselves authentically.

How do you tailor your approach to the needs of your clients?

When a client requests a workshop, I start by asking, “Why?” This question helps me understand their background, challenges, and the issues their participants are facing. Their answers shape the content and structure of the workshop from the outset.

Which types of projects do you turn down?

I avoid projects where there is a clear misalignment between upper management’s expectations, middle management’s communication, and the actual needs of the participants. Without alignment, the training is unlikely to deliver meaningful results.

When you’re not working, what are your interests?

Despite spending more than 100 days a year traveling for work, I still love exploring new places in my free time. I have a passion for architecture, photography, and food—especially European variations of hamburgers. I also enjoy reading and staying active, having transitioned from foil fencing to hiking. Spending time with friends and family is important to me, though with loved ones spread across the globe, planning get-togethers often becomes a rewarding project in itself.
