This role introduced her to the art of cold calling and basic sales. Her love of art and sales experience led her to work in various galleries, where she guided collectors in selecting artwork.

Her gallery work prepared her for a position as a promotion coordinator at Popular Photography magazine, which sparked her interest in publishing. She later held multiple roles in the industry, including advertising sales for The New York Times, launching the classified advertising program for The Hollywood Reporter, and joining the launch team for the Los Angeles Times Magazine.

Audrey’s career evolved once more when she took on a training and sales position with Tiffany & Co. That experience led her to oversee training at a large call center, where she worked with clients such as Federal Express, AT&T, and major national banks. She subsequently served as training manager for Newsday and director of training for Cablevision. An Interview with Audrey Halpern

What three or four words describe your facilitation style?

Creative, energetic, and participant focused.

How do you prepare for a client engagement?

I approach client engagements with purpose and focus on outcomes. It’s important to me that training adds measurable value. My curiosity drives me to ask many questions about a client’s business and their needs. That process helps me tailor the content effectively.

What do you like best about facilitating training?

As a lifelong learner, I enjoy seeing participants make connections, gain new perspectives, and acquire knowledge. Those "ah-ha" moments are what I find most rewarding in this work.

How do your experiences in sales and training intersect?

Sales is deeply intertwined with education. A significant part of any sale involves helping people make informed decisions. For me, the connection between sales and training has always been natural and complementary.

How did you develop expertise in areas such as productivity, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and cross-cultural communication?

My foundation in sales served as the training ground for these skills. Selling requires effective communication, organization, and critical thinking, which are essential for success. Over time, my experiences in these areas evolved into broader expertise.

What do you enjoy about working with international groups and teaching cross-cultural communication?

I enjoy helping people interpret cultural cues. What works in one setting may not translate well in another. Guiding participants through these challenges and making cross-cultural interactions more seamless is incredibly satisfying.

You’ve lived in many places and worked with diverse organizations. How has that shaped your perspective?

I thrive when I’m learning and adapting to new environments. Collaborating with clients across industries—from pharmaceuticals to aerospace to luxury goods—feeds my curiosity and keeps my work dynamic.

What do you do for fun?

I have three dogs that keep me busy when I’m at home. I also enjoy reading historical fiction, walking, cooking for others, and watching Korean romantic comedies.
