  • Introduce creative thinking tools.
  • Provide tools for evaluating ideas.

Course Overview 

Too often people and organizations get stuck in a rut, and it’s not until a crisis occurs that they change.  Sometimes those changes result in success. Other times it’s simply too late.  This interactive training course is about adopting an attitude of growth, taking calculated risks, and challenging the status quo. It is ideally suited for teams who want to find new ways of doing business.

Program Objectives

 At this program’s conclusion, participants should be able to: 

  • Define the status quo.
  • Explain the dangers of people and organizations remaining stagnant.
  • Value traditional practices and new approaches.
  • Practice using tools for thinking strategically.
  • Encourage taking calculated risks without punishing failures.
  • Seek out feedback that provides direction.
  • Recognize roadblocks that inhibit challenging others.
  • Understand the importance of a common set of goals, values, and beliefs.

Course Outline

“X” Marked the Spot: Determining How We Got in the Rut

Well, it worked before, and it worked so well. What happened?  This introductory discussion explores the reasons why people and organizations become stagnant in their thinking and actions and what employees and managers can do to keep themselves and others in their organization in a growth mindset. 

This Land is My Land: Valuing Different Points of View

In the growth-focused workplace, many people have learned to practice the art of honoring experience while at the same time embracing new perspectives.  This course component provides concrete tools for recognizing past successes and considering new approaches.

The Next Map: Using Strategic Thinking

This segment of the program explores techniques and models for evaluating the present and planning for the future.  During this part of the program, participants will practice using several tools to assess their current successes and challenges.  They will also learn how and when to identify the “elephant in the room.”

Pirate Prevention: Avoiding Sabotage

Whether a manager, subordinate, or peer, how we react to others can have a ripple effect throughout an organization.  During this part of the course, participants will examine language that encourages productivity and sound decision-making but prevents the sabotage of group think. 

Hidden Treasure: Learning from Mistakes

People learn from mistakes, but the question is, what do they learn?  This portion of the course focuses on the skills needed to address errors in a way that encourage others to take risks rather than retreat to the way they’ve always done things.

Hot or Cold: Asking Others for Direction

Sometimes people are afraid to ask for directions or hear news they would rather avoid.  During this part of the session, participants will learn the importance of and techniques for soliciting feedback from others.

One Compass: Aligning Organizational, Team, and Individual Ideals

This final segment examines solutions for addressing roadblocks that would prevent participants from adopting an attitude of reliance on “status grow.”    

By the conclusion of this program, participants should have the skills needed to think proactively, make strategic decisions, and challenge the status quo.
