Course Overview
“Talking Up, Talking Down, Talking Sideways: Communicating Across Generations” is a two-hour virtual session designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to navigate communication in multigenerational workplaces. With five distinct generational cohorts in the workforce, understanding what defines each group and how they interact is essential for effective collaboration and leadership.
The session begins by exploring how generational cohorts form, shaped by shared experiences, cultural milestones, and historical events. Participants will discuss the characteristics of the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z, learning what binds these groups together and how life phase influences communication needs.
Participants will then dive into best practices for communicating across generations, focusing on practical strategies for adapting messages, managing expectations, and building connections. By discussing approaches for communicating upward (to leaders and mentors), downward (to team members and juniors), and sideways (to peers), participants will gain tools to foster understanding and collaboration across all levels.
Through interactive discussions, real-world scenarios, and actionable takeaways, participants will leave this session with the ability to navigate generational differences and build stronger, more cohesive teams.
