Emphasizing Empathy

Communicating with Control, Concern, Consideration, and  Compassion

Course Highlights

This empathy workshop will:

  • Provide a framework for understanding empathy.
  • Offer a self-assessment to measure empathy.
  • Discuss different types of empathy.
  • Outline two practical models (Triple-A and SHOES) for demonstrating empathy.
  • Offer strategies for building capacity for empathy.

Course Overview

This hands-on workshop teaches empathy as a key skill for effective communication and strong interpersonal relationships. Participants will learn how empathy improves collaboration, builds better connections, and creates a positive environment.

The course presents empathy through four essential elements: control, concern, consideration, and compassion. During the session, participants will discover how these components work together to foster meaningful interactions. They’ll also explore three distinct types of empathy, evaluate their own empathetic abilities, and develop critical listening skills.

The second half of the program focuses on application. Participants will learn how to apply practical frameworks such as Triple-A (assess, acknowledge, act) and the SHOES model to real-world situations. These tools provide specific strategies for incorporating empathy into everyday interactions.

The workshop also tackles common obstacles to empathy and equips participants with methods to overcome these challenges. Throughout the program, participants will focus on practical applications, allowing them to implement their new skills immediately.

The following outline highlights some of the course’s key learning points. As part of your training program, we will modify content as needed to meet your business objectives. Upon request, we will provide you with a copy of the participant materials prior to the session(s).
