Available Formats
Program Overview As enjoyable as a workshop can be, training is not all fun and games. Without a solid foundation, few people can consistently transfer skills and knowledge. This multi-day program covers all elements of designing and delivering effective training.
Program Objectives At this program's conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the importance of considering participants and their training needs including different learning styles and adult learning principles.
- Write objectives and evaluate whether these objectives have been met at the end of a training session.
- Develop an effective training style using appropriate training aids and techniques.
The following outline highlights some of the course’s key learning points. As part of your training program, we will modify content as needed to meet your business objectives. Upon request, we will provide you with a copy of participant materials prior to the session(s).
Course Outline
What Are We Doing?: Defining a Successful Training Program

Who Does Well?: Defining a Successful Trainer
Next, participants will discuss the characteristics of a successful trainer, the common mistakes made by new trainers, and ways to avoid or resolve training errors.

During this segment, participants will explore the differences between adult and child learners. We will review the four steps of the adult-learning process and how to use each to help others gain knowledge and skills.
Where Are We Going?: The Learning Cycle
For every learning point we make, there should be a pause in the learning cycle to be certain everyone "gets it." This unit will examine that cycle and explore some ways to cover all points of the cycle in a training program.
What Is Needed? Performing a Needs Analysis
Next, participants will learn about needs analysis and its role in the training process. During this segment, participants will also look at some sample situations and develop possible training ideas.
What Are We Going to Do?: Training Methods
During this discussion, we will explore various training methods as well as environmental concerns.
How Are We Going to Do It?: Presentation Skills
In this part of the program, participants will explore some different ways to communicate with a group including telling, showing, non-verbal communication, and using notes. Participants will also examine some different types of visual aids and how best to use them.
Who Would Do That?: Dealing with Difficult Participants
At this point, participants will complete a brainstorming exercise to identify types of difficult participants and consider ways to deal with them.
What Do You Think?: Evaluations
We will conclude the program by examining several evaluation methods.
By the end of this program, participants should thoroughly understand the role of a trainer and what elements go into a solid training program.
