Careers with Business Training Works, Inc.Careers

Thank you for your interest in working with Business Training Works, Inc. The following is some information about partnering with our company and the corporate training field in general.

Structure of the Organization

Most of the facilitators who partner with us do so as independent contractors. In most cases, we are not their primary source of income. They have active consulting practices, income from books and other products, etc.

In many cases they started working with us because they offered something we didn't already have in our course catalog. In other instances, they lived in a location where we didn't have facilitators but had a need for local representation.

Credentials and Requirement

Our facilitators have all or most of the following credentials:

  • 15-30 years of work experience
  • Academic degrees in their chosen fields
  • Books and articles published by mainstream media outlets
  • International work experience
  • Active consulting practices
  • Solid references from Fortune 500 companies

How to Submit Your Service for Consideration

If you feel that you may be a good fit, please send us:

  • Contact information and names of five to ten clients for whom you have provided training and facilitation services
  • A DVD or link to video demonstrating your platform skills
  • A bibliography of any published materials you have authored
  • A list of any foreign languages in which you are fluent enough to facilitate
  • A list of any soft-skills courses you could teach that differ from those we now offer

If we believe there is an opportunity for us to work together, we will then set up between two and three calls for you to speak with our existing facilitators. The purpose of the calls is for us to learn more about you and for you to learn more about us. If we both agree we'd like to partner, we will contact you when an appropriate opportunity arises.

Frequency of Opportunities

Some of our facilitators work several times a month for us. Others work only once or twice a year. The factors that influence frequency are:

  • A facilitator's breadth of knowledge  (The more you know, the more places we can use you.)
  • A facilitator's popularity among our clients (The facilitators who regularly work with us usually do so at the request of our clients. For example, we have had some request the same facilitator for up to 50 sessions.)
  • A facilitator's ability to be flexible and low maintenance (Calling us about what kind of work we have for you will not help you to get more work. Spend your energy marketing your services to your direct clients. If we have something that might be a good fit, we will let you know. Our job is to help our clients meet their needs. Our job is not to market your services to our clients.)

Q&A

Q: What if I end up working much harder to get ready for a client than I had initially expected to?
A: You win some. You lose some. Effort does not always equate to results. Because you are a contractor, you choose the jobs you wish to work on.

Q: What if a client cancels a date? Do I get paid?
A: If we don't get paid, you don't get paid. We pride ourselves on being flexible. Cancellations do not happen often.

Q: How long does it take me to get paid?
A: Checks are routinely cut within a week of an event. However, you can speed up that process by emailing us an invoice along with a PDF of the session evaluations.

Q: If someone tries to book me directly while I'm working for Business Training Works, Inc. Is that okay?
A: Our clients are our clients. Contacts from those clients belong to us. Ethically we expect you to book work found through us through us. If in doubt, ask us. Our goal is to be as sane and reasonable as possible. Your situation may be unique.

Q: I am missing some of the items you requested. Will you still consider me?
A: That depends. If you are recommended to us by one of our regular facilitators, we tend to be more flexible. If not, we follow the standard process.

Q: Will you come and see me live if I don't have a recording?
A: In a word, no. We don't require a high-quality recording. We just need to see something. People in this business professionally find a way to provide us with a recording.

Q: I had all of the credentials you asked for and you still didn't work with me. What happened?
A: Sometimes it's just an issue of fit. Your style doesn't match the needs of our clients, or your style doesn't connect with our existing facilitators. There's lots of work out there, and there are plenty of other organizations with whom you might have a better experience.

Q: I have taught school for years. I am retiring and looking to continue in education. Are you a good fit for me?
A: In the immediate future, probably not. Our clients tend to be corporate and/or interested in facilitators with corporate experience. However, once you have established your reputation with clients in our market, we would love to hear from you.

Q: What resources are available to people interested in getting into this field? I don't have all of the qualifications you require but want to get them.
A:Click here for training and development resources.
