Diversity Training Materials
Here is a sample of one of the 21 cases and questions included in the guide.
The plant procurement specialist for a large nursery is a woman in her mid 70s, and she has been in this position since the nursery first opened 28 years ago. She performs her job masterfully, but she is not known for her winning disposition, either with vendors, customers, or co-workers. The business has grown tremendously, and so have her responsibilities. She has asked the owner to have another employee assist her during the day, but her request has been ignored. Not one of the employees is willing to work with her. She is convinced that she is experiencing age discrimination. She believes that the owner wants her to quit since he could hire someone much younger whom he could pay considerably less than he is currently paying her because of her longevity.
1. How might the situation described affect the nursery's bottom line? 2. Should any action have been taken prior to this point? If yes, by whom? 3. What should be done now? |

Case studies are one of the best ways to make concepts come alive in training. These scenarios and their accompanying questions are designed to engage participants in discussions about diversity at work.
